HLT Distribution

HLT releases are available on afs and distributed in form of HltImage or pacman kits. This document shows an example how to install with pacman. Pacman kits are used to create HltImage. Please refer to HltSetup page for instructions how to setup the installed software.

Kit installation for project builds

The procedure to install is similar to previous installations. HLT cache for pacman is now in http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/project/hlt/admin/www/kit/cache

Your trusted.caches might look like

       http://atlas-computing.web.cern.ch/atlas-computing/links/mirror/Atlas.mirror/
       http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/project/hlt/admin/www/kit/cache

The first entry comes from the offline installation and the second one is for HLT. For example for 12.0.3 I did

    pacman -get am-CERN:12.0.3
    pacman -get trusted.caches:AtlasHLT_2_0_3_i686_slc3_gcc323_opt
    pacman -get trusted.caches:hlt-running-2.0.3

There is no package for external_patches for the moment but it is foreseen for future releases. Installation of hlt-running does not ask question anymore. Please check generated hltrc file afterwards if it really points to the offline installation which you want to use. The offline version of 12.0.3 comes with an earlier version of AtlasLogin which does not yet fully support kit installation of HLT. You have to copy a newer version AtlasLogin-00-00-62 into AtlasLogin directory.

Kit installation for release up to HLT-03-00-05

To install HLT-xx-yy-zz from pacman kits do

  • pacman -get trusted.caches:HLT-xx-yy-zz/HLTRelease-slc3_ia32-opt
  • pacman -get trusted.caches:external_patches-HLT-xx-yy-zz-slc3_ia32-opt
  • If you plan to run HLT in the online framework
    pacman -ignore-cookies -get trusted.caches:hlt-running-HLT-xx-yy-zz
might be useful. You'll be asked a few questions about the directory layout and the offline version to be used, HLT wrappers and data.xml repository files will be generated afterwards.

  • The source of the installation is given in a file called trusted.caches It should contain
          http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/project/hlt/admin/www/pacman/cache/
          http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/GROUPS/SOFTWARE/OO/pacman/slc3/cache

This should be enough. The dependencies on external software are satisfied automatically. But note tdaq packages are not available as pacman kits and they should be installed separately.

Alternatively to install just the monitoring subset of HLT use the same trusted.caches file and run

  • pacman -get trusted.caches:HLTMON-xx-yy-zz/HLTMonRelease-slc3_ia32-opt
  • pacman -get trusted.caches:external_patches-HLTMON-xx-yy-zz-slc3_ia32-opt
  • pacman -ignore-cookies -get trusted.caches:hlt-running-HLT-xx-yy-zz
instead of HLTRelease.

To setup the environment

  • Top directory of your fresh installation should contain setup.sh file. Do
    . ./setup.sh
  • source
    . ./releases/HLT-02-00-03/HLTTesting/*/cmt/source.sh

At this point you are ready to run athenaMT or athenaPT. More information can be found at HltSetup.
