How to migrate from ifae-s0 to gmail

  • Identify the ifae-s0 account to migrate: for example pepe
  • Login to ifae-s0 with root account
  • Create a bogus unix account in ifae-s0. We will call it migrator. Check that you can login with ssh.
  • Clean migrator account

rm -rvf ~migrator/*
mkdir ~migrator/mail

  • Ask the user which folders to migrate. Normally they are in the home directory of the unix account ~pepe or in a subdirectory called ~pepe/mail. Normally it is difficult to use the user's account if he has all the mail folders in the top directory as other non-mail files may prevent the migration to work. You must be sure that all the files are in one of the valid mail formats.

cp -fv ~pepe/INBOX ~migrator/INBOX
cp -fvr ~pepe/mail ~migrator
cp -fv ~pepe/Sent ~migrator/mail/Sent
...

  • Change the ownership of the files of the migrator account.

chown migrator.users ~migrator -Rv

  • Go to Google Mail e-mail migrator

https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/ifae.es/ServerConnections

  • Select ifae-s0.ifae.es server which has been configured to import folders from ifae-s0.ifae.es located in the mail subdirectory except the INBOX.

  • Select Specify a few user accounts

  • Fill in in the Username field the name of the Google account, and Source Username the name of the migrator account.

  • After showing the folders found you can trigger the transfer of files. Good luck.
