PURW:

  • For MC:
    • effect of pile up is considered by simulating in each event an additional amount of vertex.
    • for each MC event having a vector of objects called "=PileupSummaryInfo=" , pick the mean number of interactions for the event (getTrueNumInteractions()) for intime bunch crossing (getBunchCrossing() ==0)
  • For Data:
    • take pileup json from: /afs/cern.ch/cms/CAF/CMSCOMM/COMM_DQM/certification/Collisions11/7TeV/PileUp/.
    • xsec= 68000
    • mode true
pileupCalc.py -i ../../../PhysicsTools/PatAlgos/test/excbadCert_160404-180252_7TeV_ReRecoNov08_Collisions11_JSON.txt --inputLumiJSON pileup_2011_JSON_pixelLumi.txt --calcMode true --minBiasXsec 73500 --maxPileupBin 50 --numPileupBins 50  MyDataPileupHistogram_true.root
In this case the pileup histogram contains the distribution of the mean number of interactions per crossing, which would correspond exactly to the value returned by PileupSummaryInfo::getTrueNumInteractions() in the Monte Carlo.
