My Notes for running CMSSW (November 2009)

Compiling a new version

  • ssh -Y velasco@lxplus5NOSPAMPLEASE.cern.ch SLC5 machines
  • go to ~/public/cms/WORK/
  • project CMSSW DOES NOT SEEM TO BE DEFINED IN SLC5
  • scramv1 list CMSSW (tells me all the available CMSSW versions)
  • cmsrel CMSSW_3_3_2 (or other version)
  • cd CMSSW_3_3_2/src
  • cmsenv
  • cvs co Calibration/HcalCalibAlgos
  • scramv1 b (to build the libraries)
  • cd Calibration/HcalCalibAlgos/test
  • cmsRun calib_validator_cfg.py

The basic twiki is: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/ValidIsoTrkCalib

The most important routine seems to be: /CMSSW/Calibration/HcalCalibAlgos/plugins/ValidIsoTrkCalib.cc

When editing

  • edit the file, such as SandboxValidIsoTrkCalib.cc
  • in order to recompile, must go to the CMSSW_3_3_2/src subdirectory

Running in CAF

submission to CAF using crab:

source /afs/cern.ch/cms/LCG/LCG-2/UI/cms_ui_env.csh
source /afs/cern.ch/cms/ccs/wm/scripts/Crab/crab.csh
cd to your CMSSW area and where your crab.cfg is, then,
cmsenv
crab -create
crab -submit



example crab.cfg:

Also your output directory in castor should have the right write
permissions:
rfchmod 775 /castor/cern.ch/user/m/mvelasco/......



interactive caf:
bsub -Is -q cmsinter xterm &
cmsenv


To look in castro:

  • rfdir
  • rfmkdir
  • rfio: to link
  • rfcp to copy

Checking jobs

DBS

*Checking tags:

  • edmProvDump rfio:/castor/cern.ch....

Analysis

  • root.exe ValidFile_XX.root (or whatever the file name is)
  • TBrowser b; (inside root of course)
  • You probably want to study plot_calib_valid900.C to see how to use the ntuples.

  • for example, to look at some beam halo data,
  • nsls -l /castor/cern.ch/cms/store/data/BeamCommissioning09/Cosmics/RECO/v2/000/121/844/
  • or nsls -l /castor/cern.ch/cms/store/express/BeamCommissioning09/ExpressPhysics/FEVT/v2/000/122/067/
  • gives you a bunch of files.
  • you would use this as: '/store/express/BeamCommissioning09/ExpressPhysics/FEVT/v2/000/122/067/3E0460A4-6FD7-DE11-919E-0019B9F730D2.root' in your cfg file
