Changing Site Parameters in the PanDA Central Database (for OSG)

Changes are requested from Alden Stradling (Alden.Stradling@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch, +1.817.272.0186). Please CC your message to the PanDA shift list (pandashift@hepmailNOSPAMPLEASE.uta.edu) and Torre Wenaus (wenaus@gmailNOSPAMPLEASE.com), and the administrators of the site in question.

Request Procedure for Changes

When you are preparing your change request, please have a look at the present definition of your queue, which can be found on the Autopilot Page. Clicking on your queue will give all the relevant configuration information. Copy out the variables you need to change, paste them into an email, modify them appropriately, and send the request. The changes will be made and verified, and you will receive a confirmation email. Please check your queue at this point to make sure all the changes were done right and are working as expected.

Request Procedure for Queue Additions

When you are preparing your addition request, the easiest method is to work by analogy. Look on the Autopilot Page, which will give you a selection of queue definitions – try to find one that is nearly the same as your own. Compose an email containing a link to this "model" queue. Copy the parameters that need to be changed from that queue's page into the email, and make the appropriate modifications. The queue will be added and verified on the basis of this model, and you will receive a confirmation email. Please check the queue at this point to make sure all the changes were done right and are working as expected.

If you can't find any queue that can act as a model for you, you'll need to select any queue definition page from the Autopilot Page. In your request email, please create a list in the following format:

(example)

'accesscontrol' : 'None',
'allowedgroups' : 'None',
'appdir' : '/usatlas/OSG',
'cloud' : 'US'
...

etc.

There are presently 72 variables to fill out -- any that are not specified will be set to NULL.

Request Procedure for Deletions

You will need to decommission the queue before deletion -- make a request for the queue to be set to "brokeroff" for a few days, then "offline". "Offline" is the effective equivalent of deletion. If, however, you want the queue completely deleted, please request the deletion after these steps have been taken.

Other Considerations and Expectations

  • These requests will be handled in a very literal-minded way. I will email you if I think there might be a problem with your settings, but I won't be checking things exhaustively.
  • Please allow 24-36 hours for a normal request - there are no shifters for this, so it will be done on an "as-possible" basis. If it seems to have fallen through the cracks, please resend the email to nudge me. If it is do-or-die and I am on a plane, Torre or Rod Walker may be able to handle it -- but planning ahead is better, if possible.
  • Please be ready for your changes to be implemented immediately. I certainly try to do things as promptly as possible, and that can be two minutes from your email. If you need me available for the 24 hours following the change for fast adjustments, please try to arrange this in advance, and provide me a phone number.

There will be other changes to this procedure as the system evolves, making life easier for all involved -- please check back here when you are interested in making a request, as the procedure may have changed.
