Playing EVO Recordings

Where available recordings of the student meetings (using the record feature of EVO) are available as an archive file associated with the specific student meeting's TWiki entry. These can be played with the EVO Player.

The steps to do this are as follows:

  • Download the archive.
    • If the archive is not a ZIP file (has the extension .zip) it will need to be extracted. On SLC n: tar xjf archive.tar.bz2, tar xzf archive.tar.gz, tar xf archive.tar. You should be able to just right click and extract in a file browser in any operating system.
  • Start the EVO Player from the EVO website.
  • In EVO Player File -> Open ->
    • Navigate to and select the .zip file -> Open
    • Navigate to the .evo file in the extracted archive directory -> Open
  • The meeting should start playing and the recorded streams available as they became available in the meeting.

A few things to note:

  • Check the bookmarks as the different talks may have been marked when the recording was made.
  • The player allows you to skip, pause, stop and replay as you would expect a media player to.
  • I believe that the EVO Koala client (EVO for live meetings) must be closed for EVO Player to open.
  • Koala that cannot be used to play the recordings.
  • EVO player contains a filter when selecting the files so you are only able to see .evo, .zip and other files that I don't know how to produce.
