b' Analysis

(This is for 6 b partons with 6 b jets, for the cases of two b partons from a Higgs merging into a single jet, RUMergedHiggsCase )

Total events for b' mass of 650 GeV /c2 = 96,377

Total events for b' mass of 800 GeV /c2 = 103,365


We selected b'b' $\rightarrow$ bbHH $\rightarrow$ bbbbbb events by imposing condition of nbpartons = 6.

mb' = 650 GeV $\rightarrow$ 17,073 events $\rightarrow$ ( impose that b partons have $p_{\rm T}$ > 30 GeV and |$\eta$| < 2.4 ) $\rightarrow$ 9,521 events

mb' = 800 GeV $\rightarrow$ 18,149 events $\rightarrow$ ( impose that b partons have $p_{\rm T}$ > 30 GeV and |$\eta$| < 2.4 ) $\rightarrow$ 10,986 events


We then selected from these events the events in which there is 1 distinct jet matched to each b parton.

Restricted to events with 6 or 7 jets

mb' = 650 GeV $\rightarrow$ 5,493 events

mb' = 800 GeV $\rightarrow$ 5,864 events

Jets matched via $\Delta$R < 0.3, with $\Delta$R defined as $\sqrt{(\Delta\phi)^2 + (\Delta\eta)^2}$

b partons matched to either 1 or 2 jets, and jets matched to either 0 or 1 b parton.

mb' = 650 GeV $\rightarrow$ 2,480 events

mb' = 800 GeV $\rightarrow$ 2,355 events


We then progressively applied the "loose" b-tagging requirement (Combined Secondary Vertex; >= 0.244)

b' mass 650 GeV b' mass 800 GeV
> 0 bjet 2480 events 2354 events
> 1 bjet 2470 events 2345 events
> 2 bjet 2391 events 2274 events
> 3 bjet 2048 events 1971 events
> 4 bjet 1358 events 1232 events
> 5 bjet 489 events 410 events


We then plotted the $H_{\rm T}$ of each event, the $p_{\rm T}$ of the 4th highest $p_{\rm T}$ and lowest $p_{\rm T}$ jet in each event, and the total number of jets per event.

Event Acceptance

b' mass for events is 650 GeV, total events 96,377. 17,073 events with 6 b partons.

Event acceptance tested by removing b parton requirement. Events were chosen as:

  • Require 6 or 7 jets with $p_{\rm T}$ > 30 and |$\eta$| < 2.4 ( 45,103 events)
  • Require 4 or more jets to meet "loose" CSV b-tagging cut (bdisc >= 0.244) ( 16,691 events)
  • 4th highest $p_{\rm T}$ jet in event must have $p_{\rm T}$ > 80
  • Lowest $p_{\rm T}$ jet in event must have $p_{\rm T}$ > 40

Events after cuts outlined above: 8,711(650 GeV) ; 8,871(800 GeV)

A second study:

  • Require 6 or 7 jets with $p_{\rm T}$ > 30 and |$\eta$| < 2.4 ( 45,103 events)
  • Require 6 jets to meet "loose" CSV b-tagging cut (bdisc >= 0.244)
  • 4th highest $p_{\rm T}$ jet in event must have $p_{\rm T}$ > 80
  • Lowest $p_{\rm T}$ jet in event must have $p_{\rm T}$ > 40

Events after cuts outlined above: 735(650 GeV) ; 677(800 GeV)

Then we removed the jet $p_{\rm T}$ requirements and simply made an $H_{\rm T}$ cut of $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 on events with >= 4 bjet, >=5 bjet, and = 6 bjet. (Again, b-jets via CSV >0.244). The number(s) of events with 6 b partons were adjusted to fit the accurate Higgs branching ratio. This was done by multiplying by a factor of (0.577^2) / (0.421^2) = 1.878

Events with 4 b-jets and $H_{\rm T}$ > 800: 15,788(650 GeV) ; 15,706(800 GeV)

Cut events with 6 b partons: 6,261(650 GeV) ; 6,253(800 GeV)

With H $\rightarrow$ bb branching correction (0.421 to 0.577): 11,758(650 GeV) ; 11,743(800 GeV)

Events with 5 b-jets and $H_{\rm T}$ > 800: 5,881(650 GeV) ; 5,755(800 GeV)

Cut events with 6 b partons: 3,560(650 GeV) ; 3,434(800 GeV)

With H $\rightarrow$ bb branching correction (0.421 to 0.577): 6,686(650 GeV) ; 6,449(800 GeV)

Events with 6 b-jets and $H_{\rm T}$ > 800: 1,278(650 GeV) ; 1,181(800 GeV)

Cut events with 6 b partons: 1,020(650 GeV) ; 919(800 GeV)

With H $\rightarrow$ bb branching correction (0.421 to 0.577): 1,916(650 GeV) ; 1,726(800 GeV)

Actual Data Expectation


With luminosity of 23 fb$^{-1}$; and given cross sections for b' b' pairs at 650 GeV (100 fb) and 800 GeV (21.3 fb). Expectations are as follows

[All events require njets = 6 or 7]

(650 GeV) b' b' events : 2,300

Both Higgs particles branch to bb (bbbbbb) : 766

Events with 4 bjets, $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 and 6 b partons : 280

Events with 5 bjets, $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 and 6 b partons : 159

Events with 6 bjets, $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 and 6 b partons : 45

(800 GeV) b' b' events : 490

Both Higgs particles branch to bb (bbbbbb) : 163

Events with 4 bjets, $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 and 6 b partons : 55

Events with 5 bjets, $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 and 6 b partons : 30

Events with 6 bjets, $H_{\rm T}$ > 800 and 6 b partons : 8
