Introduction

This page presents and discusses the validation plots for the private production release 12 AcerMC single top Wt-channel dilepton mode fastsim sample. This dataset was number 6220 in the CSC era, but since release 14 it was moved to 5503. No official production was done in releases 12 or 13, hence the need for private production.

Production Details

50,000 events were produced using release 12.0.7.

For generation, 10 official AcerMC input data files from grid dataset acermc.006220.Wtlep were used. The release 13 jobOptions for sample 6220 (Generators/EvgenJobOptions/share/CSC.006220.AcerMC_Wtlep.py) were backported to release 12 (DC3.006220.AcerMC_Wtlep.py, see bottom in attachments). I also had to modify the file Generators/GenAnalysisTools/TruthExamples/src/TestHepMC.cxx (also attached) to reject events with undecayed partons, as described in this hypernews thread.

The resulting EVNT files were then run through Atlfast and TopView-12-14-03 with the same settings that were used for the production of the official CSC TopView ntuples. The resulting ntuples are stored on the grid with the following dataset name: user09.DominiqueTardif.006220.AcerMC_Wtlep.fastnt.TVNT.v120007.

Object Selection

  • Atlfast muons with pT > 10 GeV, |eta| < 2.5
  • Atlfast electrons with pT > 10 GeV, |eta| < 2.5
  • Atlfast jets with pT > 15 GeV

Discussion

The validation plots are included as an attachment to this page (see bottom, filename ValPlots.pdf).

  • Electrons: For electrons, Atlfast efficiencies were rescaled in pT and |eta| bins to better match full simulation; this was done for all the fastsim CSC top samples. This explains the drop-off in the calorimeter crack regions (1.37<|eta|<1.52).
  • Muons: Average multiplicity is higher than electrons, this is probably due to soft muons from B decays.
  • Jets: These events should only have one high-pT jet from the top decay, and indeed, the 2nd jet pT distribution peaks very low.
  • MET: Looks good.

I have also attached another set of plots (ValPlotsComp.pdf) comparing these distributions for Wt-channel dilepton single top events (AcerMC -> Pythia -> Atlfast) and top pair dilepton events (MC@NLO -> Jimmy -> Atlfast) from sample 5200. These are also interesting, although harder to interpret since many of the differences are due to AcerMC/MC@NLO and Pythia/Herwig.

NEW I have produced the same set of plots(ValPlotsComp12-14HB.pdf), but now comparing Wt-channel dilepton single top events from our release 12, atlfast sample and release 14 official production fullsim.
