Meeting Notes

Attending: KB, BB, MT, DB, LB

Infrastructure Notes:

  • Some unknown hiccup out there causing about a 5% error rate. Under investigation.
  • UFL has a broken Lustre for right now.
  • xrootd.t2.ucsd.edu page needs to go behind HTTPS. Quite a bit of cleanup to do, as we didn't get disconnects from MIT users.
  • MIT is being used heavily by CP. Only has one server - had some issues with LDAP, but not apparent they were caused by xrootd.
  • Vanderbilt is actively using xrootd for fallback (as a retry to lstore).
  • Caltech is at SC11; need to upgrade to Xrootd 3.1.
  • FNAL is working on 3.1 upgrade
  • Wisconsin upgraded to 3.1; working on authz.
  • UK redirector and sites (1 T2, 1 T1) are going. Appear in monitoring.
  • DESY and Bari now also appear in our daily monitoring.
  • UCSD is running a few servers from stock RPM, some from git head (for extra monitoring info).
  • No news on a CERN-based redirector.

Software

  • Want to start building a new RPM from trunk for better monitoring packets.
    • Working for gridmap sites.
  • MT: Have started digesting the auth failure rates; not yet in webpages.
    • Will look to see if there's a way to integrate this with the daily reports.
  • BB: Working on fixing Gratia probe for glideinWMS. This will allow us to better integrate the daily reports.
    • Want to make the Gratia probe "Production Quality" for xrootd-transfer.
  • DB: Cleared off the main Condor issues, starting to prioritize one of his AAA tasks. Likely starting on Parrot/CVMFS and xrootd-hdfs read-ahead work.

Roundtable:

  • KB: Can we feed back to sites the files that are falling back (i.e., JobRobot)? BB: Difficult to do, as we have to distinguish "fallback" from "overflow". Possible to do this with a PhEDEx lookup, but is there enough gain? Probably not.
  • MT: Link showing aggregate site traffic: http://xrootd.t2.ucsd.edu/display?imgsize=1024x600&interval.max=0&interval.min=3600000&page=xrd_report%2Flink_traffic_SEs
    • Based on hand-crafted list of domain name -> sites. BB has this too for Gratia.
  • MT: Working on double-auth issue from MIT.
  • LB: Starting to think about the data rates here - how much are we expecting? BB: 10TB day? We still are in experiment mode.
    • Tweak email report: remove % diff, add plot
  • KB: Talked to Rob Snihur about having T3 use Xrootd as fallback. BB wrote up directions on the project twiki.
    • Would show up as a client domain in our daily email.
  • KB: Would like to expand integration with WLCG. Going to reach out to the WLCG MB to see how to best do this.
    • BB: Maybe present at the GDB?
  • BB: Do we need something like http://display.grid.iu.edu/? What sort of communication tools do we need for the outside world?
    • Maybe not yet - keep it in the back of our minds.

Homework:

Next time, let's compare our progress against our action items from the last F2F.
