The P-326 run in year 2007
CERN has approved a P-326 run from June 2007 to October 2007 at the Super-Proton Synchrotron in order
to collect 150,000 Ke2 events with the P-326 (formerly NA48) apparatus.
The expected background contamination (due to Kmu2 decays) in the Ke2 sample is 6.2%, the background being concentrated
in the kinematic region of high momentum of the reconstructed track (above 40
GeV/c). A crucial element for background
subtraction is muon identification by the E/P ratio. The E/P spectrum of muons will be measured 1) with a sample of pure muons
selected using a lead plate placed in fromt of the second HOD plane covering ~20% of the geometric acceptance; 2) with a sample
of pure muons selected using Kmu2 decay kinematics at low track momentum.
