Frontier Setup At Tier0

This page includes a description of the existing Frontier infrastructure at Tier0 (CERN).

Cluster description

CMS Frontier production cluster:

  • cmsfrontier.cern.ch (with DNS round robin between cmsfrontier1, cmsfrontier2 and cmsfrontier3)

Servlet /Frontier connecting to CMS production RAC DB.

3D Frontier testbed servers:

Squid runs on port 8000 in all nodes.

How to install a new servlet in a Frontier server

Frontier example Setup:


Nodes setup (same for all nodes)

Hardware setup

  • Worker nodes running Frontier & Squid with the following specs:
    • Dual Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz
    • 2Gb RAM
    • Hardisk 150Gb
    • Fast Ethernet (100Mbps)
  • Backend Oracle Databases 10gR2 (2/4-node RAC)

Software setup

  • all nodes running:
    • Java 1.4.2_06-b03
    • Tomcat
    • Frontier Servlet 3.2
    • Frontier Squid 1.0rc4 (includes Squid v2.5.STABLE7 and adittional scripts)

  • Both Frontier and Squid deployed as RPMs with Quattor
    • no NCM component -> no auto configuration management (the configuration goes with the RPM)

Squid base configuration

  • Cache_mem 512MB
  • maximum_object_size 256 MB
  • maximum_object_size_in_memory 1 MB
  • cache_dir ufs SQUID_PATH/var/cache 40960 16 256
  • Squid runs in http-accelerator mode (as a reverse proxy server)
    • httpd_accel_host server_name.cern.ch
    • httpd_accel_port 8080
    • httpd_accel_with_proxy on
