Introduction

This twiki page describes the PanDA infrastructure at CERN.

Machines

Please see DistributedComputingMachines#Panda.

Panda Monitor

The production panda monitor at CERN has the generic entry point http://panda.cern.ch/.

Machine Setup

  • Order up a panda special from the operations team
    • These machines are managed by quattor and have templates that include all the external dependencies for panda monitor (dq2, gridsite, http, etc.)
  • Then as atlpan run the script ~atlpan/public/panda/mon/setup-atlpan
    • This script checks out the panda code from SVN and copies in the private files required by the panda monitor.
  • Finally, as "atlpan" again, restart the httpd server.

Monitor Updates

Important: The correct environment for panda monitor is maintained in the httpd startup configuration /etc/sysconfig/httpd. Please make sure you source this environment file while you are developing to avoid problems

  • On a development machine test your code
  • When you are happy, commit it to SVN.
  • From USERNAME@lxvoadm run the script ~atlpan/public/panda/mon/prodMonUpdate.sh.
    • This script SVN updates each of the panda monitors, clears .pyc files and reloads apache.
    • You must be an authorised panda administrator to do this, meaning USERNAME has to have sudo privileges on the panda machines.
  • Please check the production instance after you have done this!

HOWTO

  1. Login with your personal AFS account (if you have no access ask ADC Operations: https://savannah.cern.ch/projects/atlascsops/)
  2. Do your own SVN co of panda into /data/users/USER.
  3. Fiddle with the code as you like.
  4. To start the lightweight python httpd server for debugging use the script pandamond_CERN.sh attached

If you are debugging from outside CERN on a port which is not open through the firewall then use an ssh tunnel through lxplus to debug:

ssh -L 28259:atlddm48.cern.ch:28269 USER@lxplus.cern.ch

then point your browser at http://localhost:28259/.

Panda Servers

Machine Setup

Panda server RPMs are included in the template of these machines.
