Minutes of the LIM meeting, Jan 27, 2005

Present: Emil Obreshkov (ATLAS), Florence Ranjard (LHCb), Shahzad Muzaffar (CMS), Andreas Pfeiffer (SPI)

Apologies: David Quarrie (ATLAS), Eric Poinsignon (SPI)

Actions:

Doxygen 1.4.1 has been installed in external/ for rh73-gcc* and slc3_ia32_gcc323. Other platforms have problems with the installation script. Doxytag is in progress (Alberto).

Andreas met with Shaun to discuss the new version of scram (v 1.0) and the implications on the projects. The new version is not backwards compatible, Andreas got example files for the LCG AA projects. He'll evalute and discuss with the project leaders and come up with a plan to migrate on a time-scale of a few weeks.

The next round of root-4 (4.02.00) based pre-releases of the LCG AA projects was started, SEAL 1.6.0-pre2 is available since last Tue, the next POOL prerelease is going to be build by Ioannis once some more changes in POOL have been implemented and tested. New prereleases which can be tested by the experiments will be announced on the LIM mailing list.

Issues:

LHCb asked to have access to the source code of CLHEP. This is already available in ViewCVS (http://clhep.cvs.cern.ch/cgi-bin/clhep.cgi/CLHEP/) from the lcgcvs repository. In addition, Andreas will look into the possibility to install the sources in the external/ AFS area of CLHEP.

CMS announced that they will start testing the root-4 based prereleases starting next week once the restructuring of their code is finished.

LHCb asked for a possibility to install all related LCG AA project versions in one step, e.g. from a single tarball. Andreas explained that the mechanism provided on the SPI web pages for installation (lcg-install-manager.py) does this in an "intelligent" way (e.g., not downloading package/versions which are already installed). In order to improve this, a set of "pseudo packages" LCGAA-x.y.z will be created to download the related versions of the projects in one go (now one has to download POOL and PI separately as there is no dependency, later GenSer will be added).

Next meeting: February 10, 11:00.

Action items:

new and outstanding:

  • check status of root-4 based releases
    • a new series of prereleases based on the released root 4.02.00 is in preparation. seal 1.6.0-pre1, pool 2.0.0-theta and pi 1.3.0-pre1 are build now.

closed:

  • provide _dbg versions for SLC3 platform
    • re-opened as LHCb needs the versions of LCGCMT_26_2d
    • in progress (done by now)
