Meeting on the Linac4 debuncher cavity, 4. April 2010
Action Plan
within ~1 month Philippe should have a simulation model that gives us the power needs for the debuncher cavity and the constraints for the 2 last PIMS cavities, which are supposed to do the energy ramping,
Lutz and Mamad will verify the voltage margin needed for the debuncher cavity (nominal 0.7 MV, so far a number of 0.9 MV was quoted as maximum voltage). They will also look at the minimum cavity aperture needed for a 1.6 m long 7-cell cavity. The assumption is that 30 mm aperture radius will be enough. Also the position of the cavity should be optimised to reduce the power needs as much as possible.
Once the voltage margin is confirmed, Rolf will provide an updated set of cavity characteristics to Philippe.
Once we know the power needs for the debuncher, we can consider schemes with 2 debuncher cavities and 2 drivers.
Rolf suggested a coupled cavity scheme with one tunable cavity (via ferrites). It was considered and interesting idea that can be followed up maybe with a student, but that it is probably difficult to realise in time for Linac4.
