Linac4 windows (F. Gerigk)

  • phone conference with Edmond on Monday afternoon, Thales still very interested, discussed technical details on how to adapt our design to their workshop procedures,
  • we cannot use the same window size as they are using for their design, but a compromise is being worked out,
  • if we sign in June, then 4 ceramics would be ordered, prototyping can then start in September/October and will take 6 months, in order to avoid waiting time for CERN approval of prototypes, CERN could order the ceramics for the series in advance and send them to Thales.
  • price estimate will be given to finance before April 8th, soon after we will have the revised offer from Sebastian/Stephane,
  • prepare common paper for IPAC11 on Linac4 coupler and window

Linac4 windows (P. Ugena-Tirado)

  • HFSS simulations finished to find a position for the window so that peak fields due to the reflected wave are minimal. Results are attached (see below). The space of ~ 40 cm is quite small for positioning the ceramic and the adaptation blocks.

Collaboration with India (F. Gerigk)

  • informed RRCAT that only plasma/EBW is suitable for the windows, waiting for a reaction,
  • include 15 jacks plus spares for the transfer line in RF structure budget,

Movable tuners (F. Gerigk)

  • started engineering check of movable tuners for PIMS,
  • the other tuner drawings will be ready within 1-2 weeks, then a shorter approval will be launched,

CCDTL (F. Gerigk)

  • Received a summary of dimensions for the cavities/modules, which were defined by CERN, used at BINP, and used at VNIITF, even though there are 3 different sets of dimensions for for some pieces, the final module lenghts differ by < 1 mm, which can be compensated by the bellows of the inter-module connections.
  • Sent a letter to the auditors of ISTC, explaining when CERN is going to pay the outstanding amounts.

DTL (S. Ramberger)

  • Tank1 Segment1 (T1S1) arrived at CERN for heat treatment. It has been unpacked, placed temporarily in a workshop of TE/ABT in building 867 and checked for the principal dimensions with a laser tracker by the survey team. A deformation of the inner tank wall at the thread holes for lifting has been discovered that should be avoided on future pieces. On Monday the tank will be cleaned by TE/VSC and later heat treated in building 153.=

Waveguide coupler (R. Wegner, P. Ugena-Tirado)

  • publication finalized, last set of S-parameter simulations with cavity are running
  • interesting option seen: moving tuner closer to cavity can increase the cavity-eaveguide coupling even above the maximum possible with a standard T-type coupler
  • for the debuncher cavity, this coupler will be tested in low and high power
  • if ok, the DTL coupler can be modified as well to increase the iris length on the waveguide side to simplify the installation

PIMS (R. Wegner)

  • welding tests done in Juelich show too much porosity and too little penetration (report EDMS: https://edms.cern.ch/document/1137919/1), the test will be repeated to fulfil ISO 13919-1
  • pictures of new, enveloping jaw from IPJ received, first machining results of the diameter are promising (ellipticity of rings 0.1 mm), length needs to be checked

PIMS (P. Ugena-Tirado)

  • HFSS calibration simulations for tuning rings are ongoing, results are promising, central cell is being simulated (long simulation time!)
