IEFC meeting (F. Gerigk)

  • there are some signs that Linac4 will be conncected to the PSB before LS2. This is to avoid having to commission too many new/upgraded machines at the same time (L4+PSB injection, PSB upgrade to 2 GeV, PS with new PSB beam...)

India (K. Schirm)

  • no news

Movable tuners (F. Gerigk)

  • CECOM sent a proposal to manufacture certain test pieces to be qualified at CERN. Their proposal was discussed and accepted (bellow assembly and one part containing most of the critical welds)

DTL (Y. Cuvet, S. Ramberger) in French and English:

  • reprise poutre tank1/segment2: usinage de mires manquant
  • Modif. Couvercle tank 1/segment1 suite erreur pos.trous
  • fin aujourd'hui reprise usinage de 26 drift tubes
  • 26 drift tubes of Tank1 are being re-machined at the workshop with a rate of 3 pieces per day. The tight requested tolerances are now all met.
  • The girder T1S2 is being finalized. Target holes on T1S1 had been forgotten and are now being added. Both girders will undergo metrology.
  • Tank segment T1S1 will be copper plated soon.
  • Tank segment T3S1 is currently undergoing heat treatment at CERN.

Contracts with ESS-Bilbao (S. Ramberger)

  • The contracts for the manufacturing of several items are in preparation. ESS-Bilbao confirmed the costs and schedules.

PIMS (R. Wegner)

  • Production meeting last week at CERN. 1 side of disc G_2-3 has been machined by the Soltan Institute with an overlength of 0.5 mm. It took about 1 month; the 2nd side is being machined now. The required tolerances are nearly met; most of the non-conformities can be accepted. A second disc has been machined by CPL to an overlength of 0.5 mm. The results are less good. The machining methods are now developed at the Soltan Institute.
  • From the experience gained with these prototype pieces, the time needed for the series production has been estimated to be several years, even with 2 shifts.
  • People are hired for completing a 2nd shift at the Soltan Institute. 3 new companies responded positively for supporting the machining by subcontracts.
  • In a meeting with the CERN workshop, the design office and the metrology lab the critical tolerances have been relax.
  • A report on X-ray analysis of the first 2 rings (G_1-2 and G_13-14) has been sent to CERN. The quality of the welds is doubtful. It has been decided to ship ring G_13-14 to CERN for a detailed investigation. Further welding in Julich has been stopped until the required quality of the welds is ensured.
