Produce EVM document for Linac4 diagnostics
closed 18/12/08, not completed at this date; BI responsibility and no longer followed up by this working group
2. Follow-up of open actionsAction for C.Vuitton and Y.Cuvet to produce working drawings for the inter-tank/inter-module regions of the linac. A first version of the drawings for DTL, CCDTL and PIMS is now available.
All the diagnostics specified has been included and is in the right location. A weak point are for the moment the magnets for which no real design exists yet. A special meeting will be held on 17 January on the lay-out of the inter-module regions.
Some worry was expressed concerning the support for the wire scanners and SEM grids. It must be ensured that they are mounted in a rigid way, otherwise they could move and loose their alignment.
Another issue is alignment. In a previous meeting it had been stated that alignment via the support ("clavette") is considered sufficient. This needs to be confirmed. The quadrupoles are supposed to be aligned to 0.1mm precision (w.r.t. the magnetical center). The question was raised whether the pick-ups should be aligned separately. M.Pasini will follow this up with F.Gerigk.

clarify alignment of beam diagnostics
M. Jones explained the alignment strategy (see minutes 07/04/2008).
Action for U.Raich to develop a controls strategy for the diagnostics. A first CERN card is now available for tests.
Action for U.Raich to start with a design of a movable diagnostics bench ("D-plate"). K.Hanke reported that it is under discussion to outsource the moveable bench as well as the diagnostics at the end of Linac4 to CEA. In that case issues like schedule and approval procedure must be ensured. The general feeling was that the end-of-linac diagnostics is less appropriate for outsourcing, while the moveable bench could be a well defined work package.
Action for G.Tranquille to do simulations for the emittance meter at 3MeV and 12MeV in order to make a choice for the slit material and slit cooling. G.Tranquille not present. E.Bravin suggested to make this a topic for a Marie-Curie fellow who will come by the middle of 2008.
Action for T.Lefevre to determine tolerances for the slit of the emittance meter. This is closely linked to the simulations, see above.
Action for B.Goddard to provide specifications for the BLMs in the injection period. Pending.
