Project X collaboration meeting (F. Gerigk)

news from SNS (F. Gerigk)

  • SNS is now running at 1 MW since ~1.5 years, 925 MeV
  • availability in FY 10 was at 86%,
  • < 1 W/m of beam loss in warm sections between cryo-modules,
  • < 10^-4 beam loss throughout the SC linac
  • CCL quads run ~design value,
  • SCL quads run ~30% lower than design to minimize losses,
  • experiment planned to study intrabeam stripping: introduce a low energy foil stripper to run with protons. That way one can see if the presently observed losses with H- are related to intra-beam stripping
  • the klystron modulators become more reliable, which means that now the ion source is rising to the top of the reliability concern list, long term plan is to have a dual source with magnetic LEBT, for quick switch over

CCDTL (F. Gerigk)

  • received 2 quotes for steel profiles for CCDTL supports,
  • a meeting takes place next week with Finance to discuss contract options,
  • 2nd module has left Snezhinsk beginning of this week,
  • confirmation that coupling slot size is increased for last 4 modules,
  • it was suggested to suppress tack welds on ports to avoid ellipticity of ports (0.3 mm), suggested to accept these and to keep the tack welds,

Helicoflex joints (F. Gerigk)

  • revised list of joints from Alessandro with request for maximum compression forces,
  • excluded tin joints (15% of the conductivity of Cu, bad vacuum properties),

Collaboration with India (F. Gerigk)

  • asked if EBW can be done in New Delhi,
  • proposed to revise coupler design to have thinner welds,

PIMS (S. Ramberger)

  • 4 companies have been in Spain for girder and drift tube production. DMP now announces 6 weeks of delay for the first batch of drift tube parts with respect to the agreed schedule of January. For the other parts the schedule has still not been established. A new planning is promised for 20 April.=
  • The drawings for the assembly of drift tube parts in-house has been reviewed. Several smaller issues have been detected that need to be sorted out in the next weeks. The tooling for the 4th drift tube welding and the document on the assembly procedure needs to be updated.=
  • The heat treatment of the first DTL segment has been completed successfully at CERN and the tank has been sent back to CADINOX.=

PIMS (R. Wegner)

  • New pieces for welding test sent to Juelich, arrived yesterday
  • Summary of Visit of IPJ and CPL in Poland uploaded onto EDMS: https://edms.cern.ch/document/1141661/1
  • Meeting with workshop and design office will be organised to discuss acceptance tests of first test pieces which will arrive end of May to CERN

PIMS (P. Ugena-Tirado)

  • HFSS and GDfidl have been compared in order to obtain the frequency shift due to different tuning island heights. HFSS will be used for the rest of the modules.=
  • The work on the PIMS First module high power measurements publication continues.=
