BI-Linac4 meeting of Wenesday 28th March 2007
Minutes by K.Hanke and M. Pasini
Present: M. Pasini, K. Hanke, U. Raich, E.Bravin, L.Soby, G.Tranquille
Agenda:
1. instrumentation review
***
1.
The instrumentation review will take place on 9 May 2007 at 09:00 in 6-2-004. D.O Jeon from SNS and P.Ausset from Orsay have been invited as external experts.
After a first draft of the agenda several items were identified which were missing. U.Raich agreed to iterate on this and send around a new version.
action: U.Raich
2.
Following an e-mail from E.Bravin from 20 March K.Hanke asked to clarify the situation. In detail E.Bravin had asked to specify:
1) Exact location (possibly with a realistic drawing of the machine)
2) Space constraints
3) Parameters of the beam (energy, intensity, size, pulse length,
repetition rate)
4) Parameters you want to measure (quantity, accuracy, range, time
resolution)
E.Bravin complained that there is no written document answering these points.
It was received with some astonishement that these questions were raised at this moment. It was clarified that the issues have been addressed in various meetings over the last year and that minutes have been sent around for further comments and/or discussions. It was reminded that the aim of those meetings was to come together to some specifications rather then set some numbers that have no practical sense. General specifications are available in the TDR as well as in an EDMS document on source/LEBT diagnostics (520399).
M.Pasini went through the list of diagnostics for the 3
MeV part which need to be worked on with highest priority. This list has been prepared by M.Pasini and sent around to the BI experts. E.Bravin and G. Tranquille said that they did not have enough information about the slow wire scanners installation layout and usage (functional specifications) to elaborate on them as requested in the chopper line. It was explained to them that AB/BI has proposed the use of some existing slow wire scanners from LIL in the Linac4 chopper line (minutes of 25 October 2006). The implementation is already well progressed.
For the other items in the table:
- Transformers and Faraday Cup OK
- SEM grid and emittance measurement missing
- Slow wire scanners controls and read-out missing
Action: E. Bravin, J-J.Gras, U. Raich
The question was raised whether an SEM grid for the source spectrometer is needed. This was confirmed. Furthermore a slit is needed which is already existing.
