Welcome to the Atlas Women Group wiki page.
Goals of the Atlas Women group
We are pleased to let you know that we are starting a support group for women on Atlas and will hold our first meeting one evening of the next Atlas overview week at CERN scheduled for 20-25 February. The idea for such a group originated when a few of us discussed this possibility during the last Atlas overview week. All of us thought we could benefit from peer support and experience sharing. The main goals of the group are to:
- provide a place for women to meet other women in Atlas and support for new and not so new Atlas women.
- ensure the best use of human resources which will also lead to better physics
- support the Atlas management efforts to increase women representation at all levels.
- support the Atlas Outreach Committee in its effort to give adequate representation for women physicists and to stimulate interest among young women to pursue a career in particle physics.
- support the effort of the EOO at CERN and suggests ideas for improvement of the work climate for women where needed.
- encourage the exchange of ideas and information through the AtlasWomenPage Wiki page for all women on Atlas, including those who rarely visit CERN.
First meeting and preliminary agenda
We would like to invite all women to attend the first meeting of the Atlas Women Group which will take place one evening during the Atlas plenary week in 20-25 February 2006
The meeting will be held in the evening at a restaurant to allow for informal discussion followed by a few short presentations (10-15 minutes each) after dinner. Please let us know if you are interested in attending that meeting.
The tentative agenda includes the following speakers:
- Anna Lipniacka will give a brief account of the Nordic Women meeting held in Bergen in July 2005.
- Marianne Johansen, a Ph.D. student from Stockholm, will talk about her experience in a network for physics students in Norway.
- Josi Schinzel, the CERN Equal Opportunity Officer will talk about her mandate and her experience.
- Fabiola Gianotti will discuss her experience in Atlas and share with us what kind of efforts the Atlas management has been making to ensure adequate gender representation.
We will send more definite information closer to the meeting date.
The Atlas Women mailing list
The Atlas Women mailing list was generated from the CERN database. Some 332 names came up. This new mailing list is called
atlas-women@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch. If you do not wish to have your name on this mailing list, you can unsubscribe from
http://listboxservices.web.cern.ch/listboxservices/
or if you know someone else who should be, please add her name from there as well.
