1. Candidate: Jiahong (Jerry) Ling, Ph.D. Student, Harvard University

Has this person had an exceptional authorship for any other papers in the past? No.

2. Paper: SUSY-2018-42, Search for heavy, long-lived, charged particles with large ionization energy loss in p p collisions at s√ = 13 TeV using the ATLAS experiment and the full Run 2 dataset

Status of the paper: Phase1 EB Draft Sign-off

3. Request: • Requested by Melissa Franklin Local Ph.D. Advisor at Harvard. Deputy Team leader. • Comments by the Institutional Team Leader (if this is not requested by the team leader): Jerry joined Harvard ATLAS in July 2020. He started working with Ann Wang on Pixel dE/dx analysis in Aug 2020. The contribution spans through the rest of 2020 and into early 2021. Although he dosn’t have an official qualification task, Jerry has worked on commissioning of the NSW at CERN during the summer of 2021. The group would like to request exceptional authorship for Jerry for the analysis SUSY-2018-42.

4. Qualification task:

Jerry worked on NSW for three months this summer but has not started his qualification task. • The Technical Supervisor’s name and email address: the Authorship Committee will contact the TS for information.

5. Contributions on the analysis:

• DETAILED descriptions: Jerry was tasked to optimize (globally) the signal dE/dx cut for the full analysis. During the study, he found that increase in S/sqrt(B) leads to worse final limit. After further investigation, Jerry and Ann found that the definition of the Correlated-Pt systematic was off, and proposed a fix to it during Sep 9. 2020 analysis meeting. The fix has since been incorporated into the final analysis. After fixing the systematics, the dE/dx signal region cut finally can be optimized.
