Configuring the Compax3 Drives

The Compax3 drives are configured using the C3ServoMgr.

Using the Parker Automation Manager (PAM)

Although it is not recommended to operate the robot via direct PAC communication due to lack of collision checks, it is important to understand how to communicate with the robot using the Parker Automation Manager (PAM) for debugging purposes.

Configuring the z stages

The z stages are configured by setting register values through the PAM software.

Operating the robot

The robot is operated using the C# program in MS Visual Studio. To run the program, press Start. This will open the GUI shown below:

When testing a tape, select the design from the drop down menu. Then enter the serial number in the Serial Number field.

Common pitfalls

  • Occasionally dust can accumulate under the encoder and the gold scale (the gold strip the runs along the entire length of the stage). This can cause the light on the encoder to turn red, indicating an error. If this happens, it can cause the drive to go into an error state with error code "7392: Feedback level too low". To fix this, carefully clean the area between the encoder and the scale using compressed air.
  • Occasionally the computer with no longer recognize any of the ethernet connections. This is fixed by a restart.
