Classification of Inelastic events at 13 TeV with TMVA
Observation soft diffraction including the CASTOR Calorimeter
Abstract
Observation of soft diffractive dissociation in pp collisions of LHC Run2 at sqrts=13
TeV is presented as classified from the two final state hadronic systems separated by the largest rapidity gap in the event. Two samples are distinguished, one dominated by single diffractive dissociation (SD), and other one dominated by double diffractive dissociation (DD). The CASTOR calorimeter allows us to detect the hadronic system of the mass M_Y when it escapes the central detector. The activity (or lack of it) in CASTOR enables to distinguish an SD event from a DD event. In this analysis cross-sections of non-diffractive, SD, and DD processes are determined using a multivariate analysis method based on boosted decision trees.
