DQM On-call Shift Overview

0. Check the DQM On-call Sign up and Requeriments

Make sure you have done the sign up procedure and you meet all the DQM On-call requeriments.

1. Make a DQM On-call Shift Handover

Make a shift handover with the previous DQM on-call shifter on Monday morning in order to get latest information about DQM general status and get the DQM on-call shift mobile phone. You must be reachable 24/7, in reach of Internet within 30 minutes.

2. Stay informed about DQM Activities

Stay informed about DQM activities, news and data taking conditions (ideally attend daily Offline Operations Meetings while being on shift). Please check the latest DQM Shift documentation, specially the DQM Online/Offline Short-term instructions.

3. Attend to the Daily Run Meeting

Attend and report DQM activities at 11am Daily Run Meeting (EVO is enough). It takes place at 10:00am during weekend and holidays.

  • Everything running smoothly can be reported as "Nothing to report" but should be mentioned in person.

  • If you cannot attend to the meeting, DQM Coordinators should be informed at 9:00 am.

4. Present the DQM Shift Tutorial

Present the DQM Shift Tutorial at 2:00 pm on Monday, please follow the next instructions:

4.1 Create the agenda: Create a new agenda here (please remember that the cloning option from a previous agenda does not work) and copy the slides from the week before. The EVO room and the physical room (354-1-016) are already booked.

4.2 Send a notification: Send (on Saturday or Sunday) a mail to: hn-cms-evfdqmannounce@cernSPAMNOTNOSPAMPLEASE.ch in order to inform people about next DQM Shift Tutorial.

5. Follow the DQM Online / Offline Shift operations

5.1 Check DQM Online Shift: Check problems arising during run (documentation not clear, real system problem, detector problem, etc).

5.2 Check DQM Offline Shift: Check the bookkeeping i.e. making sure all runs are getting certified by DQM Offline shifters (CERN and remote).

5.3 Check DQM Elog: Check the DQM ELOG entries done by DQM Online/ Offline shifters, specially a "Problem Report" entry and follow them up with the DQM experts.

6. Stay in contact with the DQM Shift Personal

Stay in contact with DQM Online/Offline shifters as much as possible (minimize need for people to call in the middle of the night).

7. Contact to the DQM Experts

  • Solve simple calls and dispatch difficult calls or problems to the appropriate DQM experts.

  • If it is required, interact with subsystem experts to solve arising issues.

8. Record Calls and Operator Activities in the DQM Elog

Create entries in the DQM ELOG with following format to record calls, operation activities and incidents:

9. Check the Run Registry Entries

Make sure that the information is inserted correctly in the Run Registry tools. In case of mistakes done by DQM Online/Offline shifters, please create a new entry in the DQM ELOG with following format and then make sure the changes are done by a DQM expert.

- type : QUESTION to the EXPERTS

- subject : Run Registry Correction

10. Send the DQM On-call Shift Summary

Produce and send weekly DQM on-call shift summary and send it to DQM Coordinators and the next DQM on-call shifter on Monday morning before the DQM on-call shift handover. The next DQM on-call shifter may add something if it is needed between Monday to Tuesday 16:00 when Weekly Run Meeting starts.

11. Attend to the DQM Group Meeting (optional)

Attend next DQM Group Meeting (every 2 weeks), if possible, to share your experience to improve our procedure. Please, contact to a DQM Coordinator in order to ask for the meeting detailed schedule.
