The philosophy

The lectures that were given in Ankara have been filmed and will soon be available on via CDS (audiovisual service). This will allow everyone with an interest in the lectures to watch them at any time. It is expected that a number of CERN based people (summer students, technical students, young physicists and engineers involved in one of the experiments) will make use of this option. In order to allow them to also do the exercises (to the extent possible) we had the idea of setting up one copy of each exercise in a permanent way at CERN. This also has the advantage that the exercises stay alive which reduces the effort in the preparatory phase of an external school (ISOTDAQ20100 - Rome).

Practical aspects

Room

A permanent room (~ 15 m^2) has been requested but this is still under discussion. We can use 4-R-5 until further notice to store equipment.

Set-up of the exercises

It is planned to set-up as many of the exercises from Ankara as possible. Once the room issue has been solved I will contact the responsible of the individual exercises about details (material lists, S/W, instructions, etc.). We will try to share equipment (computers, lab instruments, VMEbus / NIM modules, etc.) as much as possible between the exercises to minimize the cost (Pool rental, purchase of equipment).

Access to the room

The basic idea is that someone who has watched the lectures can contact a voluntary tutor and fix an appointment with her/him. The Tutor and the student(s) meet in the room and do one or several exercises.
