8TeV analysis

Delphes

  1. Download and compile Delphes on Ubuntu:
    • Download newest version of Delphes at Delphes website
    • Follow instructions in quick start documentation or of specific version:
      • encountered problem: "g++: error: tmp/Utilities/ExRootAnalysis/src/BlockClassesDict.: No such file or directory
        make: * [tmp/Utilities/ExRootAnalysis/src/BlockClassesDict.] Error 1". Problem most probably connected to the loactionof root and path of ROOTSYS in the computer or some missing libraries. Check makefile line 213 and make corrections.
      • with version 3.0.0: started compiling then showed error "external/ExRootAnalysis/ExRootProgressBar.cc:45: error: conversion from ‘TTime’ to ‘ULong64_t’ is ambiguous"..but wasnt able to find out what it means
  2. Download and install Delphes in lxplus.... Successful!
  3. Try using examples and tutorials in combination with root
    • to open root cd to CMSSW_X_X_X and then to src
    • make sure to sign in using ssh -Y otherwise gSystem->Load("libDelphes"); won't work
    • check out the examples and the cards in the folder
    • try to setup DelphesCMSFWLite

Hadronization

Working in the local cluster here at FIT

  1. Login to the cluster and set up the CMS enviroment
    • source /mnt/nas0/OSG/APP/cmssoft/cms/smsset_default.csh
    • cd to CMMSWX_X_X/src and type cmsenv
    • setenv CVSROOT :gserver:cmssw.cvs.cern.ch:/local/reps/CMSSW 
      kinit username@CERN.CH
      password
      kdestroy ##when you finish
  2. set up the libraries
    • cvs co Configuration/GenProduction/python/EightTeV/Hadronizer_TuneZ2star_8TeV_generic_LHE_pythia_tauola_cff.py
      scram b
  3. Use MadGraph to create event
    • define l+ = l+ ta+
    • define l- = l- ta-
    • generate p p > t t~, (t~ > W- b~, W- > l- vl~), (t~ > W+ b, W+ > l+ vl)
    • add process p p > t t~, (t~ > W- b~, W- > j j), (t~ > W+ b, W+ > j j) @2
    • add process p p > t t~, (t~ > W- b~, W- > l- vl~), (t~ > W+ b, W+ > j j) @3
    • add process p p > t t~, (t~ > W- b~, W- > j j), (t~ > W+ b, W+ > l+ vl) @4
    • output ttbar_v1
    • launch
    • change run card accordingly to whichever # of events, change the energy wanted for the collisions etc.
    • exit
  4. use cmsDriver.py Configuration/GenProduction/python/Z2onLHE_7TeV_pythia6_cff.py --filein=file:ttbar_1.lhe -s GEN,FASTSIM,HLT:GRun --pileup=FlatDist10_2011EarlyData_50ns --conditions START42_V11::All --beamspot Realistic7TeVCollision --eventcontent=RECOSIM --datatier GEN-SIM-DIGI-RECO -n 5000
  5. seems to work but doesnt create gen and root files just shows: More... Close

Dr. Yumiceva suggested to change the command cmsDriver.py Configuration/GenProduction/python/Z2onLHE_7TeV_pythia6_cff.py --filein=file:ttbar_1.lhe -s GEN,FASTSIM,HLT:GRun --pileup=FlatDist10_2011EarlyData_50ns --conditions START42_V11::All --beamspot Realistic7TeVCollision --eventcontent=RECOSIM --datatier GEN-SIM-DIGI-RECO -n 5000 because its not compatible with my version of CMSSW and it also only for collisions at 7TeV

the one in the upper right corner seems to work somehow even though with some errors, but it created the root and py files: Hadronizer_TuneZ2star_8TeV_generic_LHE_pythia_tauola_cff_py_GEN_SIM.py and .root (on the right track!) More... Close GEN,SIM,ENDJOB We have determined that this is simulation (if not, rerun cmsDriver.py with --data)

  1. The problem was that I didn't have the "Configuration" file in my local directory
  2. import the file from CERN to local
    • kinit username@CERNNOSPAMPLEASE.CH
    • cvs co Configuration/GenProduction/python/EightTeV/Hadronizer_TuneZ2star_8TeV_generic_LHE_pythia_tauola_cff.py
    • cd into src
    • now there should be a directory under src (or wherever you were located) called "Configuration"
    • use cmsDriver.py Configuration/GenProduction/python/EightTeV/Hadronizer_TuneZ2star_8TeV_generic_LHE_pythia_tauola_cff.py --step GEN,SIM --beamspot Realistic8TeVCollision --conditions START52_V9::All --pileup NoPileUp --datamix NODATAMIXER --eventcontent RAWSIM --datatier GEN-SIM --filein=file:unweighted_events.lhe
    • *make sure that the lhe file is also in the local directory!
