Abstract

This page shows the taken steps and also results for my 4Tops analysis.

I am producing a signal for the production of four top quarks using heavy scalar bosons model and then analyze the 2012 data taken by the CMS detector.

The energy of the beam is sqrt(s) = 8 TeV using a mass of the boson over 500 GeV. MADGRAPH5 will be used for parton level.

Backgrounds:
- W-> lepton + neutrino +jets
- Z/gamma -> lepton+lepton
- Diboson decays
- Single Top production
- t t(bar) production
- 4 top decays from the SM

1. Installing MadGraph over cmslpc account

2. Generating the sample

  1. Login and set environment:
    1. $ cd ~/work

    5. $ cmsenv
  2. Install FourTop model for MadGraph ( Provided by Bodgan Dobrescu, downloaded from AlejandroGomez's twiki) :
    1. $ cd ~/work/MadGraph5_v1_5_7/models

  3. Copy MG5 template:

  5. Run script to create process:

  6. Change settings and generate events:
    1. Change GH mass to 750 GeV in ./Cards/param_card.dat :
      • 10025 7.500000e+02 # MGH
    2. Change nevents and beam energy in ./Cards/run_card.dat :
      • 20000 = nevents ! Number of unweighted events requested
      • #...
      • 4000 = ebeam1 ! beam 1 total energy in GeV
      • 4000 = ebeam2 ! beam 2 total energy in GeV

      • F = cut_decays ! Cut decay products
    3. For automatic, change Cards/me5_configuration.txt:

5. GEN, FASTSIM and HLT

  1. We need a bigger disk space, so we need to change output destination to "/eos/uscms/store/user/<my_user>/".
  2. Follow steps 4.1 to 4.4 for install
  3. Create a config file for all the events
    1. mkdir temp

6. Evaluating splitting large LHE files vs. multiple runs of MG

Multiple MG runs wins. Using split with the scrits is difficult. And if you set iseed = 0 run_card.dat it changes rnd seed every run. (Good for running less than 99 times) Pbb.
