2D Comfort DCS display


To give shifter a overview of the status of Tracker, we need a tool to show all voltage/current/temperature info in same panel. Also providing access to DCS control/Debugging from same panel.

Technical Design

1. Read PS/PLC/DCU list from the tracker DCS package FSM configuration.
2. Provide a generic panel to show all the tracker info (LV, I,PLC Temperatuer etc.) by changing only several parameters, panel changeable from Detector/Rack view, provide sub panels if too much info to deal with.
3. Use SAME Alarm Scheme from FW and real-time value display. Connection to shifter DCS control GUI.

Here is a panel for Full Tracker channel0 Imon:

Which shows online value of all the Slice Test power Suplly channel0 current, the value is colored with same alarm scheme defined by FW. Moving the mouse over gives you the FSM and PG names in the hint text box. By clicking a PS button, it gives you the standard power supply control panel from DCS system, with proper user access control.

Version Tracker

* Version_0.1.2: Add Debug function mode. e.g.: Show all HV channels with I>50muA
* Version_0.1.1: Fully functional display for CAEN Power Supply System.

To Do

* New arrangement to get Detector/Rack/PLC view, for FINAL system.
* Apply to DCU,PLC system

3D DCS display


3D DCS display is a java based CMS tool (cmsDetector.jar), which reads the detector configuration from Geometry Database, then implement/create the Detector component tables for the java tool cmsDetector.jar. This 3D display is already used in MTCC runs. However, the Geometry Database is not filled at that time, peple just creat the Detector component table by hand inside the java tool.
Therefore, our first step toward 3D display is to fill the DB with correct CMS Geometry Data.


With Michael Case from University of California at Davis, We implement the Database CMS Detector Geometry filling inside CMSSW framework. The work in done, and the CMSSW pacakage is located at DetectorDescription/OnlineDBLoader/

Muon ID

Just started. Muon ID group is a new physics group. The main goals for this group are
– Identify and reconstruct muons using all relevant information from
the CMS detector
• Muon system
• Tracker
• Calorimeters
– Develop, implement and validate software algorithms for offline muon reconstruction and identification
– Develop, implement and validate algorithms to be used for online event selection (HLT)
