The LAr ECAL team was formed to ensure the quality of reconstructed data. The mandates of this task force are:

  1. Act as soon as new calibration runs are taken checking together with shift crew the completness and integrity of recorded raw data.
  2. Verify the automatic launch of automatic processing deamon and survey job's running
  3. Study the output of the automatic processing and of the validation tools: * verify constants stability * scrutinize eventualy detected varying channels * make diagnostics of pathologies * refresh -if necessary- the "pathological channel list" * reprocess -if necessary- parts of conditions * Propose "update or not" the database together with experts.

The current members of the ECAL Team are: Lorraine Courneyea , Mohamed Gouighri, Iro Koletsou, Chuanlei Liu, Luis March Ruiz, Pavol Strizenec, and Huaqiao Zhang.

Open Issues

There are a few issues that the ECAL team are currently working on. These include:

Ramp Shift

A shift in ramp values is frequently observed between runs. We have established that this is different depending on layer.

A few studies have been done on this, and a clear correlation can be seen between this shift and temperature. Additionally, a correlation can be seen between this shift and magnetic field configuration; however, in these runs there are also temperature effects present so it is difficult to make a statement on the size of the magnetic field effects.

HEC Tail

A strange tail can be seen in the ramp distribution when comparing the Sept 13 reference runs and the more recent (Oct 31, Nov 5, Nov 14) runs. This does not seem to be connected to a particular layer, FT, FEB, calibration line, etc. This issue is under investigation.


Per channel and per FEB thresholds have been set; however, the runs used for this frequently had different run conditions. These thresholds will be revisited in 2009 with runs taken close in time to ensure comparable run conditions.

Validation code has been collected and can be checked out via: cvs co groups/LArElecCalib.

Information regarding a given run is best obtained from the ATLAS elog or the electronic calibration hypernews.
