SVN

Maintaining a package on SVN takes sometime to get use to. I did not find it simple at first. Remember to update the release notes.

Some useful commands that will check the status of your package, update your local package and commit any changes you have made

svn status --show-updates

svn update

svn commit -m "<comment>"

Then the package should be updated in the LHCb tag collector https://lhcb-tag-collector.web.cern.ch/lhcb-tag-collector/index.html

Screens

This is a useful Unix command that will allow you to keep an 'interactive' session running on a remote machine whilst you log out of your local machine. To do this first log into a remote machine then use

screen -S Name
where you name your screen Name.

Once you have your program running on the screen you can detach your screen from your local machine using

alt-a d

You can then shutdown your local machine. To continue the session login to you remote machine and use

screen -r <Name>

alt-a esc
allows you to scroll in a screen session.
screen --help
as usual will list everything screen can do.
