Introduction
This twiki page aims to map and provide a test plan for all
CMS services which rely on central Oracle databases at CERN. This upgrade involves the offline production database (CMSR) from version 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4 of Oracle RDBMS.
The proposed date is
Thursday February 27th, from 8:00 to 12:00 CET. See HN announcement
HERE
.
Please note that Oracle version 11.2.0.4 is already available in the integration (
INT2R) and development databases (DEVDB11). The integration upgrade happened on Dec 11th.
Validation procedure
The main goal is to validate the services against the
INT2R or DEVDB11, since they have already Oracle version 11.2.0.4. It's hard to define a validation procedure for all the services, but in general it would be:
- for those services deployed in cmsweb-dev.cern.ch or cmsweb-testbed.cern.ch AND that are pointing already to INT2R or DEVDB11, they could be used for this validation
- or the service responsibles should deploy their service in a VM (or somewhere else) and point it to one of the Oracle instances above.
For the success of these validations, we need to:
- simulate as close as possible the production environment, so we can be more confident of the validation results.
- the entire responsability of these services rely on the service responsibles listed in the table below.

Additional notes:
- If your service relies on Oracle CMSR instance and it's not present in the table above, please add it yourself and/or contact cms-comp-ops@cernSPAMNOTNOSPAMPLEASE.ch
- There are several DBS2 instances and it seems some accounts talk to both production (CMSR) and integration (INT2R) instances (list provided by Luis L.).
- Frontier is using cms_orcon_adg instead of CMSR.
Validation results
Results should be provided as soon as possible, so we can give or not the green light to Kate D. / DBAs. In case we need to define a date, I'd say which should have all validation results by next
Monday Feb 24th.
Please add the validation results to the table above (and add comments if you consider important). If we face show-stoppers for this upgrade, then it's better to send an email to
cms-comp-ops@cernSPAMNOTNOSPAMPLEASE.ch
