The CMS experiment is managing hundreds petabytes of data recorded by
the detector and simulated physics events. Data are transferred to computing centers, or sites, providing facilities for data storage and
computing resources for data processing and analysis.
PhEDEx (Physics Experiment Data Export) maintains the knowledge of data
replicas locations and manages data transfers between the CMS sites.
Main PhEDEx components are:
Central Transfer Management Database (TMDB) maintaining a system state
Agents performing central and local site-specific tasks
Interactive Web Page for managing and monitoring the transfers
Web data service providing APIs for integration with other tools
Command-line tools for the operations and administrative functions
