Session 3

19 Nov 2008

Question 1: You are planning to start analysis, where would you go to look for information

  1. starts in http://cms.cern.ch/iCMS/
    1. looks for physics and analysis and thinks of going to physics icms but first sees if there any quick links
    2. sees couple of meetins which could be of interest
  2. goes to physics page http://cms.cern.ch/iCMS/jsp/page.jsp?mode=cms&action=url&urlkey=CMS_PHYSICS
  3. goes to electroweak PAG https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/TWikiEWK
    1. says his interest would zmumu, not interested in results and conferences yet
    2. wants to see who is involved and get some emails
    3. thinks to go to the muon subgroup to see what they are doing
  4. goes to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/TWikiEWKmuon
    1. hopes to have some general information
    2. thinks this is what he want
    3. is asked if he would be able to write an analysis code based on information given here
    4. thinks of starting from the notes
    5. scrolls down and thinks that the page give useful information but not for writing code
    6. will look for a tutorial
  5. goes back main ewk https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/TWikiEWKmuon
    1. looks for a keyword tutorial
  6. goes back to icms http://cms.cern.ch/iCMS/jsp/page.jsp?mode=cms&action=url&urlkey=CMS_PHYSICS
    1. sees Physics analysis tools but looks for something which says specifically tutorial or something alike
    2. sees Tutorials under User Support - does not think that this is it but decides to go
  7. goes to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/Tutorials
    1. thinks that's what he wants as it leads to physics analysis toolkit
    2. scrolls to the list and decides to go back 1 in http://cms.cern.ch/iCMS/jsp/page.jsp?mode=cms&action=url&urlkey=CMS_PHYSICS goes under Physics Analysis Tools 1 goes to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/SWGuidePhysicsTools
    3. thinks this is suited to what he wants and decides to start here
    4. thinks of starting with physics analysis starter kit as the other links are getting too specific
  8. goes to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/WorkBookAnalysisStarterKit
    1. thinks this is general
    2. sees the fast explanation and sees thiings that he does not want to know yet
    3. sees the examples and says this is the place where he would start

Question 2: You will have muons in your analysis. You would need to know what kind of thing you can ask from the muon data object.

  1. wants to check in the moun group
  2. first checks in the starter kit page https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/WorkBookAnalysisStarterKit if they have the description of the object
    1. sees keyword AOD but is not going to click on it yet
    2. sees that there are different objects in this page and thinks clicking on muon (in the root screen when having done the tutorial) would give information on muons
    3. thinks staying in this page, do the exercise and click on the objects

Question 3: You would like to match the generated and reconstructed data. Find information.

1 would look for keywords efficience or validation 1 stays on https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/WorkBookAnalysisStarterKit

    1. wants to see if there's information on this in this page
    2. sees some generator object on screen shots 1 goes back to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/TWikiEWKmuon
    3. not sure of getting any specific info here
    4. sees validation but thinks this is not the page to go
    5. sees ElectroWeakAnalysis code package
  1. goes http://cmssw.cvs.cern.ch/cgi-bin/cmssw.cgi/CMSSW/ElectroWeakAnalysis/
    1. does not think the code tree gives any help but continues 1 http://cmssw.cvs.cern.ch/cgi-bin/cmssw.cgi/CMSSW/ElectroWeakAnalysis/ZMuMu/ -> source
    2. thinks of picking up one of these to see 1 goes to http://cmssw.cvs.cern.ch/cgi-bin/cmssw.cgi/CMSSW/ElectroWeakAnalysis/ZMuMu/src/ZMuMuBack.cc?revision=1.1&view=markup
    3. says that this is not where he wants to be 1 Goes to the tutorials https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/Tutorials (open in a tab)
    4. finds old CMSSW tutorial but does not want to go as it is old
    5. decides to go back to the beginnnig and looks for something else
  2. goes to http://cms.cern.ch/iCMS/jsp/page.jsp?mode=cms&action=url&urlkey=CMS_PHYSICS
    1. thinks that would just ask around if anyone knows
    2. is asked if he thinks there would be general documentation on this
    3. thinks that he could keep looking around in the analysis groups but thinks that information that he is looking for is too specific and would not be there
    4. is asked if he would expect to find some central documentation on CMSSW issues somewhere
    5. knows about workbook but thinks this is specific and maybe not there, decides to go to the workbook
  3. goes to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/WorkBook
    1. sees MC tools matching but checks first if there is something even more specific
    2. says that he would not have found this without the question
  4. decides to go to MC truth https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/WorkBookMCTruthMatch
    1. sees config files to start with and thinks this is good
    2. does not see anything specific to muons
    3. would start checking out the files and thinks this is what he wants

Question 4: other people

  1. would go looking for indico meetings
  2. would follow his bookmarks
  3. goes to indico physics
  4. goes to ewk
  5. goes muons 1 thinks this is where he would look for information
