CASTOR - Cosmic rays teststand

Purpose

To share the information about Cosmic ray testsand of CASTOR calorimeter with the CASTOR collaboration.

Motivation

Determination of the efficiency of a readout unit with cosmics muons.

  • All efficiencies (quartz-plates and light guides) are put into one factor.
  • In the ISR hall the AT table with the half calorimeter will be tilted to 45 degrees, reducing the cosmic flux by about a factor of 2, but keeping the usual particle flight direction.
  • Scintillators will be used to trigger on cosmics muons. They will be installed in front and at the back of the calorimeter.

@ LAB

  • Frame to tilt the CASTOR to 45 degrees
  • 4 scintillators and light guides
  • Need electronics
