HLT Muon Review
Introduction
The event filter uses offline code wrapped to run inside the HLT steering.
Review Summer 2006
There will be a review of the Muon Spectrometer HLT in June 2006.
Scope of Review
Review the current status of the L2 and the EF Muon software and its readiness to be used in the High Level Trigger
Items to be covered includes:
- general physics requirements a short description not too technical giving an introductory overview with problematic of rates. Algorithm view of the Full slice and specific algorithms, FEX and Hypo (writers: Leandro?, Gianpaolo?, Margherita?....)
- algorithm/tool/... design How much the design is close to RTF raccomandations ,trk::trak, input-EDM, output-EDM, use of PrepRawData, separation data-access and algorithm (Gab+Mic) * address separately underlying design and current implementation(Gab+Mic)
- ensure that design is flexible enough to adapt to new conditions (Gab+Mic)
- algorithm/tool/... implementation
- assess current status, (Gab+Mic)
- assess how close it is to be ready for use in collisions In our opinion here only a general statement should be adressed and link to te following part should be given, see e.g. Proposed Scope of Review(3)
- ensuring that experience gathered at test-beam, commissioning and offline exercises are incorporated.
- Test-beam experience (Max, Diana)
- Offline exercises (Gab+Mic)
what is the meaning of commissioning experience?
- performance results Andrea+Margherita+Max
- readiness and commissioning plan – try to understand what we can do with CSC in order to test the integration to the system and the specific request for the CSC test (in the time scale of october -autumn ... simulation and cosmics data -how much can be achieved? )
- plan with milestones and manpower (Stefania+? Stef will check this. She will define suggests some collaborators).
Technical and commissioning issues
- Cabling description EF use it indirectly ... no involvment foreseen from our side
Data preparation (Bytestream converters) Part of the converters is specifically for EF, e.g.
RDOtoDigit,
RDOtoPrepRawData possible requirement to be involved ... check if EDM has undergone an own review if(required){Stef?, Mic?}
- Calibration: geometry description, alignment issues (Stef) use of condition database volume of access, frequency of access, etc.(check what is in TDR, Niels, Domizia )-Gab Mic
- Algorithm: have to fulfil online requirements such as memory consumption, multi-threading, performance and not bring in unwanted dependencies. (Diana for the online requirements view) Run some simple athena test to check memory usage (Mic)
- Algorithm configuration (not fully clear what do they refer Seeded/Wrapped Gab/Mic)
- Steering aspects: slices configuration, L2 and EFResult, (here it is not clear if they refer to TriggerMenu or, as they have said at the phone-towards EDM ESD/AOD Mic it can certainly be included a part regarding TrigHipothesys) (Stef)configuration of the sequences, algorithm flows (Stef),very general statements about the use of the EFResult itself (Gab/Mic/Stef)
- Validity of the LvL1 simulation (Cavern background, etc..) - Validation of the LVL1 simulation data. Assess the stability of LVL1 simulation, showing the performance as with G3, discuss the new simulation and the involved problematic (timing) (Francesco)
- Monitoring of Muon slice concerning EF, our proposal is to start from the experience at test-beam see MuonMonitoring to be checked with Stefano Rosati and thoughts about the future. (Gab+?)
- Implication of MDT calibration (refer the status showing with the Andrea and Marghe work as the resolution change while miscalibrating RT)
Commissioning issues
- Integration with online (include test in pre-series, LST, etc.) current status & plans (Diana)
verification of the seeding mechanism from
LvL1→LvL2 and EF and from Lvl2→EF. seeding mechanism in offline +status perspectives in online Diana+Gab+Mic
- evaluation of the algorithm latency in the (real) online environment ( refer the non real environment experience + foreseen at real...gab mic diana)
- Cosmic run (how to use it for HLT muon slive commissioning --- a generic view of the offline status (Nickef+Stephane) and the possible use in TrigMoore) (for internal discussion... an EF trigger with cosmics is only for reconstruction checks? ??? so in principle nothing you can't do also in offline... ) ... if agreed on the contents: Gab+Mic+?
- specific vs standard algorithm ? Testing building blocks?
- Readiness of commisioning strategy with cosmic data, first p-p collision and beam-gas (?)
