IPMI BMC
This procedure explains what to do if a BMC in a ROS PC fails and has to be replaced
- Spare BMCs are kept in a cupboard in 4-R-7 and a drawer in USA15 (Contact MarkusJoos for the keys)
- Before a BMC can be used in the ROS PC one has to load it with the proper F/W. The procedure for loading the F/W is:
- Find a unused ROS PC that is connected to a screen and keyboard (e.g. the one in 4-R-7)
- Turn it off and remove the power cables
- Insert the new BMC
- Re-install the power cables
- Boot if from the USB memory stick of MarkusJoos
- Run "setup"
- Stop the PC, remove the power cables, extract the BMC
- Install the BMC in the final PC (see above)
- When the PC is started up ipnmac should be run automatically with the proper IP address
- Try to ping the BMC
