Computer accounts and Roles

Accounts

As muon shifter you need to have a valid CERN NICE account, which implies having completed the Computer Security course on the web https://sir.cern.ch. Your account for Atlas P1, which is separate from the NICE one, will be created automatically a few days before your shift. Please note that P1 authentication uses CERN single sign-on scheme, which is why your NICE account must nevertheless be valid.
There is no need for you as muon shifter to request any account directly to the Atlas sysadmins, please refrain from doing so!

Roles

What shifters and experts can do on the P1 network and which applications and machines you can access is governed by the so called P1 Roles. A role is a set of defined privileges enabling you to do your job as shifter while protecting other parts of the system for which you are not trained for.
As muon shifter, your role is MUON:Shifter. Please note that roles are active (enabled) only during the time you are on shift according to OTP as the main muon shifter, not when on shift as trainee or outside your shift times.
Role assignment is handled automatically according to OTP, shifters shall not request any role themselves, neither to the Atlas sysadmins nor muon coordinators.
