can go there via ssh tunnel using SOCKS proxy.

ssh -D 12345 lxplus.cern.ch

and leave that ssh session open for all time you want to talk to the server

then manually set proxy configuration of your browser in such a way the SOCKS proxy point to localhost:12345 (see the picture below for an example with Firefox, try both SOCKSv4 or SOCKSv5).

At this point you should be able to see the page http://vomcs54.cern.ch:8888 since your browser will pass by lxplus for every page.
