Setting up Pcitco91 (dual cpu) with WXP: Pre-install: Check that the network cable is in A, else it won’t find the network. Check that the machine is already registered at http//cern.ch/register Recreate the account pcitco91 on the cern webservices page. DO do this manual step. It ensures that the automatic step later on will not fail!

Install: Run the installation floppy from http://cern.ch/win/Services/Installation/FloppyImage/dianexp.exe Using fdisk: I deleted all partitions on C. Recreated one large primary DOS partition. FAT32 = large disk partitions. NTFS = large ? “Yes” You HAVE TO reboot. Then format C: Volume name pcitco91 Then install. Allow it to convert to ntfs It (again) recreates the computer account. Then it copies files to the hard disk. Then it logs in as administrator!

I set the admin pw. I set the display to 1280x1024 I installed vnc 335 (though this may not be necessary now with remote access…)

First time I installed it said: It said: A read only file c:\etm\pvss2\3.0Alpha\bin\mscvirt.dll was found (read only). To overwrite click yes. (I did and got General failure when copying the file c:\etm\pvss2\3.0Alpha\bin\mscvirt. Check the installation directory and re-install. Err -4 Aborting PVSS II setup!

PVSS00oledb.exe has failed to start because wkwin32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. NB pc91 has c:\winnt\system32 whereas Minion has c:\windows\system32

I repeated the installation as described above ( ie without Ado and putting the 2 apps in separate dirs this time (!!) ) and it went through OK. I deleted a 2nd copy of demo app from PussyApps though. An old (2.11.1 !) readme came with this installation. The PVSS Console 3.0 starts.

Actually I had to reinstall it again later…

Monday 7 April 2003 PC91 & PC92 can take 4Gb max (according to Elonex). 4 slots. Mem must be installed in pairs. Quote coming.

Thursday 24 July 2003 Hannes said Remote Desktop would work if pvssdev was a local administrator. He was correct. I made pvssdev a local admin on pc91,93 and 94.

Monday 1 September 2003 Paul installed PVSS3.0Beta from CD

Wed 3 September 2003 KB823980 does now show as having installed. (Paul Checked.)

12 September 2003 Paul installed the MS-039 security hotfix.

1 October 2003 The MS auto update installed itself.

13 February 2004 Paul installed CERN printer wizard from G:\Applications\CERN\CernPrnt\Wininst\ClientPrintPackage.msi

2 March 2004 Oliver and Dmitri reinstalled Nice WXP

3 Mar 2004 Machine moved to server room with IP=137.138.170.155

4 May 2004 Installed PVSS II v3.0 Official Release
