TileCal cosmics analysis

Meetings

Monday 03-12-2012: First meeting to setup analysis.

  • D3PD maker refined based on feedback: add trigger event filters first;
  • Find stream (CosmicCalo, IDCosmic, etc.) that contains muons for 2012 runs;
  • Validate D3PD maker.

Aim

Study Tile Calorimeter calibration using muons from cosmics runs.

TileD3PD package

Obtain the D3PD package using the following command (ATLAS software version 17.2.7).

cmt co PhysicsAnalysis/D3PDMaker/TileD3PD

Build and run in the following sequence.

cd cmt
make clean
cmt config
source setup.sh
gmake -j4
cd ../share
athena makeNtuple_ESD.py

A ROOT file called "test.root" should be produced.

Cuts Applied (31 Oct 2013)

The histograms have the following cuts applied:

  • Require the number of reconstructed tracks to be = 1
  • Require there to be non-empty cells
  • Require at least 8 hits in the Pixel and SCT silicon detectors
  • Require the energy to be above 60 MeV to avoid residual noise in the detectors
  • Require the muon momentum to be between 10 and 30 GeV
