Introduction


This page describes the generation of VLQ pair production samples using Madgraph with gridpacks.
The primary reference for these instructions is the excellent twiki MadGraph5aMCatNLOForAtlas: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/AtlasProtected/MadGraph5aMCatNLOForAtlas

The instructions below work on a Tier3, presumable lxplus also. If you use lxplus you may run into time limits.

Setup

Log in, (and highly recommended to use tmux), setupATLAS (see SoftwareTutorial for help).
Go to your work area $WORK (output is ~Gb so not in your home area).

mkdir VLQ_PP
asetup 19.2.5.36,AtlasProduction,here
mkdir PL_VLQ_UFO

You need to copy and untar the model files: PL_VLQ_UFO.tar.gz, at least until we include this model in the release. Then:

mkdir run
cd run

Copy the attached jobOptions MC15.999999.MGPy8EG_TTbar_gridpack.py the run directory (again, will add to svn eventually).
Note that this JO does not run Pythia (not necessary for grid packs) and does not care about the number of events you ask it to generate.

Run

You may want to use all the CPU processors available.
Find out how many processors are on the machine with:

cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep processor

If you use all the processors, be nice to other users.
To enable multi-core multi-core in Athena:

export ATHENA_PROC_NUMBER=8

Note in the instructions that if you want to run Pythia after this you have to add a few lines to your JO.

And not run the job with:

Generate_tf.py --ecmEnergy=13000. --maxEvents=-1 --runNumber=999999 --firstEvent=1 --randomSeed=123456 --outputEVNTFile=EVNT.root --jobConfig=MC15.999999.MGPy8EG_TTbar_gridpack.py

With dual 4 core Intel i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz machine it takes about 13 hours. Expect high variation.

Output

The job will not end cleanly. This is expected.
