Some definitions

  • Trimming: Removal of containers.
  • Thinning: Removal of individual objects from a container. You only keep the objects of interest for a given container. For example, you keep only the calorimeter cells that are close to an electron.
  • Slimming: Removal of parts of an object. You don't keep the full object any more. For example, you could remove the error matrices from TrackParticles. Typically slimming consists in removing undesired branches.
  • Skimming: Removal of unwanted events.
