ATLAS Athena Tips

  • dq2-ls
  • dq2-get -n X
  • checkSG.py AOD.root, this returns the objects in the aod
  • checkxAOD.py outputs the following:
    • size in memory for all events
    • size on disk for all events (after compression)
    • size on disk for one event (after compression)
    • compression factor.
    • number of events written (hence you can also see the effect of skimming)

Trigger rulebook and rate

Rate prediction from Tim's tools using Athena

  • Produce rate xml files
    • Note that use the outputRootDir the one you will link later for the cost monitoring page
    • The precale xml files are not the ones in the prescale_XXXXXX/ directory. This is the prescaleXXXX.xml in the scripts directory
mkdir -p TrigCost
cd TrigCost
asetup dev,mon
RunTrigCostD3PD.exe --monitorRates --cleanAll --outputTag L1MU4EMPTY10 --useEBWeight --files ~tamartin/public/trig_rate_M7_test.root --prescaleXML1 prescales8510.xml --outputRootDir=/afs/cern.ch/user/y/yygao/public/M7/

Trigger online

BGR for Run-2

Run 2 BGRP proposal.
(0) BCRVeto: allows triggers everywhere but in a ~20 BC wide region at the end of the fill pattern when the bunch counter reset is sent
(1) Paired: Colliding bunches in ATLAS
(2) CalReq: calibration requests for Tilecal (laser/charge injection) in the abort gap (BCID 3445-3514)
(3) Empty: empty BC without any beam activity 5 BC before and 5 BC after (for cosmics, noise)
(4) IsolatedUnpaired: unpaired bunches with no beam activity (in the other beam) in± 3 BC (for background monitoring, excluding leakage tails from the other beam)
(5) NonIsolatedUnpaired: unpaired bunches not covered by (4)
(6) EmptyAfterPaired: empty 5 BC following a paired BC (for long-lived particle searches)
(7) InTrain: veto first 3BCs in train
(8) AbortGapNotCalReq: BCID 3515-3539
(9) VdM (user defined): for VdM scan & also to be used for Afterglow study
(10) ALFA (user defined)
(11) EmptyBeforePaired: BC-1 during VdM scan & other uses

TRP gui

  • lxplus
ssh -XY lxplus
source /afs/cern.ch/atlas/project/tdaq/cmt/bin/cmtsetup.sh tdaq-05-05-00;
trpgui [-p ATLAS] [-c /afs/cern.ch/atlas/project/tdaq/inst/tdaq/tdaq-05-05-00/trp_gui/share/trp_gui_conf.xml] &

  • P1
source /det/tdaq/scripts/setup_TDAQ_tdaq-05-05-00.sh;
trpgui [-p ATLAS] [-c /atlas/moncfg/tdaq-05-05-00/trigger/trp/trp_gui_conf.xml ] &

Useful links

upper points 20 7/320 8/400
the first number is the simple DT. This is the # of vetoed triggers after an L1 accept.
the second numbers are corresponding to the complex dead time restricting the number of triggers in a given period, e.g. 7/320 means 1 token every 320 bunch crossing up to 7 tokens are in the bucket.

Finding logs related to HLT farms

  • See from the DAQ panel which node has the issue
  • Log into one of those machines and figure out the err message, for example yygao@pc-tdq-tpu-61038:/logs/tdaq-05-05-00/ATLAS/
  • Can have the messages also shown in the web page
Error log example
  • finding the logs from the log manager under the main page

M7

Start the DAQ panel from the blue general TDAQ menu
1) setup script to use setup_TDAQ.sh
2) Use datafile /atlas/oks/tdqg-05-04-00/combined/partitions/ATLAS.data.xml
3) use OHP output as -c /atlas/moncfg/tdag-05-04-00/trigger/ohp/atlas_trigger.ohp_Cosmics.xml
4) use TRP output as -c /atlas/moncfg/tdaq-05-04-00/trigger/trp/trp_gui_conf.xml
Click on the ReadInfo, followed by GetPartition and use Trigger Presenter
  • The rates from the DCM (data control monotitoring) is higher than the TRP results. It is unclear why. The hypothesis is that TRP is not collecting all the events. This means that we are not losing events as the DCM is okay. Just some issue with the TRP tool.
  • Remote access to the P1 for trigger tool

lxplus6
ssh yygao@atlasgw
pc-atlas-cr-30
/det/tdaq/scripts/start_trigger_tool
  • oks editor oks_data_editor allows to look at the oks which is a collection of the xmls used in data taking

  • Get file from the atlasgw
       lxplus6
       sftp atlasgw
get filename (one at a time)

  • Setup tdaq scripts
source /det/tdaq/scripts/setup_TDAQ.sh

  • log manager https://atlasdaq.cern.ch/logmanager/

L1: Remove all EM, Jet, Tau, MET
HLT:
remove HLT_tilecalib_laser as it requires L1Calo and would give warning if the L1Calo is absent
add HLT_noalg_L1CALREQ2

JETM DxAOD

Run DxAOD

setupATLAS
asetup AtlasDerivation,19.1.X.Y-VAL,rel2,64,here
cmt co PhysicsAnalysis/DerivationFramework/DerivationFrameworkJetEtMiss
Reco_tf.py --inputAODFile /afs/phas.gla.ac.uk/user/d/dferreira/atlas_data/dferreira01/xAOD/mc14_13TeV.110903.Pythia8_AU2MSTW2008LO_zprime1000_tt.merge.AOD.e2743_s1982_s2008_r5787_r5853_tid01598032_00/AOD.01598032._000046.pool.root.1 --outputDAODFile testjet.pool.root --reductionConf EXOT7 --maxEvents 100 >log_testjet.txt 2>&1 &
