CMSShow brief description

CMSShow is a tool that let's you display geometry in a graphical way as well as see the geometry tree in human readable way. After integration with CMSSW framework repository, the way of visualisation in CMSShow is different.

How to display geometry

You can display geometry on lxplus but due to performance conditions it is recommended to download CMSShow on your own computer and create .root file on lxplus.

Steps on lxplus (running CMSSW to create .root file with TOTEM geometry)

Perform those steps from command line on lxplus:

source /afs/cern.ch/cms/cmsset_default.sh
cmsrel CMSSW_8_1_0_pre8
cd CMSSW_8_1_0_pre8/src
create configuration file with name config.py and copy content from:
config.py.txt
cmsenv
cmsRun config.py

In result you should get .root file that is needed in second part.

Running cmsShow

Execute following steps on any machine for get and run CMSShow:

wget http://cern.ch/cmsshow/cmsShow-8.0-1.linux.tar.gz
tar xzf cmsShow-8.0-1.linux.tar.gz
cd cmsShow-8.0-1
./cmsShow -c simGeo.fwc --sim-geom-file data.root (where data.root is file generated in previous part on lxplus)
