Next Meeting

Tuesday 2 March 2010 16:00-17:00 – Phone Meeting

1           Minutes and Matters arising (Minutes)

1.1         Minutes from the last meeting

The minutes of the last meeting were approved.

1.2         Dates for next WLCG Collaboration workshop and associated events

The dates for the next Collaboration Workshop were confirmed as 7-9 July at Imperial College, UK. An Indico agenda entry has been created at http://indico.cern.ch/confRegistrationFormDisplay.py/display?confId=82919.

1.3         Updated 2010 pledge tables

The latest version of the pledge table is linked from the agenda page.

O. Smirnova indicated that a small decrease is expected for NDGF compared to the pledge at the last RRB.

F. Hernandez announced that the hardware budget for the French Tier1 has been cut by 40% in 2010. This means that even if some equipment had been purchased in advance, they will be unable to meet the pledges made at the last RRB (October 2009). The French Tier2s could also be affected. It was agreed that the pledges should be published as originally made and the next RRB in April will need to take this new information into account.

2          Action List Review (List of actions)

·         OPN Mandate: Experiments and some Sites should provide names for working with the OPN on the needs and actions needed on Tier-1 to Tier-2 links. Names are requested prior to the OPN meeting on 8 March (http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=80755).

The action remains open. Not all names have been provided.

3          LCG Operations Weekly Report

Summary of status and progress of the LCG Operations. This report covers the WLCG activities since the last MB meeting. All daily meeting summaries are available here: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/WLCGOperationsMeetings. Some comments to the slides linked from this meeting’s agenda are noted below.

  • The regular attendance of FNAL at the meetings is appreciated. CNAF are encouraged to attend.

  • Requests have been received by experiments for roughly half day jamborees during the WLCG Collaboration Meeting, 7-9 July 2010.

There was a discussion on scheduling interventions. It was suggested that a pre-intervention risk analysis is issued for feedback from the experiments prior to publishing an intervention. The LHC accelerator schedule (see slides linked from the meeting agenda) foresees a technical stop of 3 days each month which may be an appropriate time for some interventions but experiment data will still need to be analysed during those days.

4           LHC Schedule 2010/11/12

A slide showing the LHC accelerator schedule is linked from this meeting’s agenda.

The MB agreed the following initial set of assumptions on running conditions:

          2010 + 2011

Running from mid-Feb – end Nov

        Pb-Pb in November

In principle stop after 1 fb-1 ; but we should plan to run for a full 2 years

          (0.2 in 2010, remainder in 2011)

2012: shutdown of accelerator (but not computing)

Guidance on availability of accelerator for physics is 50%

182 days pp and 28 days HI in each 2010,2011

7.9 Ms pp + 1.2 Ms HI each year assuming 50% availability

Experiments will also take data in March (pp setup) and Oct (HI setup)

        Assume 30 + 14 days at 35% availability

        1.3 Ms each year

          Totals:

7.9 Ms pp, 1.2 Ms HI, 1.3 Ms “setup” in each of 2010 and 2011

1          Milestone review

The MB reviewed the High Level Milestones dashboard and updated it.

D.Barberis noted that he cannot anymore check the data for ATLAS. It is not clear what and who can access the data.

Some other MB members commented that Experiments and Sites do not know how to check the data on the CESGA portal.

I.Bird concluded that this issue should be clarified with the CESGA team.

WLCG-09-28 – CREAM CE Deployed at the Tier-2 Sites

At the moment of the meeting there were exactly 52 Tier-2 that declare to have the CREAM CE deployed. Therefore this milestone is completed.

WLCG-09-28

Sep 2009

50 sites in addition to the ones above

I.Bird commented that the milestone was there to push the Sites to move to CREAM CE. Now the goal is to prove that the Experiments prefer to use the CREAM CE instead of the LCG CE that will be phased out.

WLCG-09-11, -12, -13 – Alarms and Monitoring

All Sites are now running Nagios. Performance Metrics have been postponed.

1.3         Conclusions:

I.Bird concluded that new milestones are requested by the LHCC but given the current phase of the project the ramp-up of services has been achieved. Probably metrics should replace these milestones. A set of metrics should be found. A common set of metrics, or different for each Site, should be provided about Site usage and performance.

2          Installed Capacities - update

The slides shown on installed capacities are linked from the agenda page. They are a snapshot taken on 5 Feb 2010. The Tier1 representatives were requested to validate their own data and to help their Tier 2 sites to validate theirs. Although Gstat is being used to allow EGEE sites to view and correct their data, the validated numbers will be included in a report which does not require use of a specific tool.

3          AOB

This was the last MB meeting for D. Barberis. He was warmly thanked for his contribution over the past years.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 2 March 2010.

4          Summary of New Actions

There were no new actions.
